Owned
by Dr. Ann and James Welch and located in Metro Atlanta, Georgia.
IXA (pronounced "eexa" and means friend and companion
in Eskimo) Alaskan Malamutes really started in the late eighties,
(even though we didn't know it at the time) with a rescued pet Malamute
named "Loki" that Ann, while in Veterinary School at the
University of Georgia, helped rescue. Loki was not even a pure bred
Malamute, but she was the absolute best dog ever! When we lost Loki
to cancer at 16 back in 2002, Ann wanted another Mal. That's when
we wound up with "Rowdy" (CH Aluk's Rambunctious Rowdy),
whose head you see in our logo. It was our intention to just own
and enjoy Rowdy, but we decided one weekend on a whim to enter him
in a show at 7 months old. That's when things got going rather quickly.
Rowdy finished his championship at 10 months old at the July 2003
Reliant Shows in Houston and the rest is history.
Our goal for IXA Alaskan Malamutes is to hold ourselves to high
standards and only pursue the best possible candidates for our showing
and our breeding programs. Meaning, we want to always be in pursuit
of quality not quantity. That is why you will not see us producing
a lot of litters. We don't breed just to "have another litter."
If we choose to breed, it's because we think we have a great match
that will produce offspring that will grade high to the standard.
That's also why you will see us acquire only dogs with quality bloodlines
for our programs. |
